Before & After: Pointing Weimaraner With Grunge Texture

I made this textured image rather serendipitously yesterday. I had just finished a new grungy texture and I wanted to try it out on an image. This image of my Weimaraner, Ellie, on point was one of the first I saw in my workbench folder. I wasn’t thrilled with my results at various blend modes on the color image, so I got the idea to turn the photo of Ellie into a monochromatic image using a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer. It’s not quite black & white, there is a wee bit of warmth giving it a slightly palladium feel. I then applied the texture. I didn’t like the warmth of the yellow in the texture for this image, so I used a Blend Mode of Luminosity at 100%, which kept the texture detail, but took on the tones of the photograph below. The layer mask intentionally gradates out from the central point of interest — Ellie’s face and lifted paw. The outer black frame further focuses attention to the center of the image. The grunginess of the texture gives an intensity that portrays the intensity of the point. I wouldn’t have normally thought of this texture for this image!

    Your work is amazing Leslie.
I’d added Puce to my dream list. It’ll be finished shortly I hope!
